Signs you need a plumbing repipe

Repiping your home can be one of the biggest and smartest investments you can make in your home. Here is what to look for when considering replacing your current pipes.

Constant plumbing leaks

Resolve any plumbing problems with a new pipe network. A brand new system will prevent you from having to make any repairs in the future.

Lead pipes in your home

Lead pipes are not a problem in older homes (think the 1920s or earlier). There are still lead pipes in some homes, but it is possible. There are serious health risks associated with lead.

Galvanized steel pipes in your home

Before World War II, galvanized steel was an essential part of piping in American homes. After a certain time, a galvanized pipe can become corroded. Water flow can be restricted when corrosion builds up and sediment can build up in the pipes.

You want to remodel your home

You can save time and money by replacing your existing bathroom fixtures and performing a repipe simultaneously if you are considering installing new ones.

What is involved in repiping a home?

Your furniture and other items will be protected by our plumbers. They will cover all areas with plastic. Your home's water supply will be temporarily disconnected during construction. Our expert plumbers will be able to do most of the work required to shut off the water during the day. This should not affect your evening routine.

Our plumbers use special tools to locate pipes behind walls. To allow access to the pipes in your home, holes are made into the drywall. We will repair and paint your home after the pipes have been installed.

Copper pipes

Copper pipes are among the most costly, at around $1-$3 per ft. Keep in mind that copper can fluctuate in price daily because it is a commodity.

PEX Pipes

PEX pipes are the newest type of pipe used in plumbing. They are much cheaper than CPVC. PEX pipes can be as low as $0.30 per foot.

CPVC pipes are cheaper than copper pipes, and it is often preferred for renovations. CPVC piping costs start at $0.40 per foot.

Frequently asked questions

Repiping is a very important job. It's crucial to find the right plumber. Do not hire a plumber who is cheap and will end up costing more. You should look for a plumber/plumbing company that is:

  • Has proof of insurance and is fully licensed.
  • Many quality references and reviews online.
  • A company that has been in operation for many years. Your home shouldn't be where a plumber starts their business.
  • A plumber that provides a detailed, comprehensive estimate that includes labor costs, material costs, and miscellaneous costs (permits or inspections).
  • They offer a guarantee or warranty on their work.

A full repipe can take from a few days to a week. Repiping smaller homes in two days is possible, but larger homes with many bathrooms may take longer.

It's important to remember that you won’t be without your plumbing for the duration of this work. The majority of the work involved building the new plumbing network along with the existing pipes. Only when the old system is being replaced by the new one will you be without water.
